Addis Garage Next Move for Trainees | COC for All

Welcome back to the blog! If you have been following our journey for a while, you know that this platform has primarily served as a space to explore modern technology and dive deep into automotive concepts. We’ve loved sharing theoretical insights, hosting discussions on where the automotive industry is headed, and looking back at how far vehicle engineering has come over the decades.

Whether we are discussing EV powertrain setups, diagnostic frameworks, or reflecting on classic internal combustion engines, our goal has always been to keep you informed and inspired. Alongside these articles, we’ve also continuously pointed our readers toward the Addis Garage Telegram Library, a dedicated hub where students, technicians, and people with interest about automotive and mechanics can easily access technical repair manuals, textbooks, and essential automotive literature that you can read in the comfort of your home.
After receiving feedback from technical students across Ethiopia, we realized there is a major piece missing from the puzzle. While theory and technical manuals are great, trainees consistently hit a wall when it comes to preparing for their official certification: the C.o.C examination. Today, we are excited to announce a major upgrade to our website approach to bridge that gap once and for all!

What is the C.o.C Examination in Ethiopia?

For those unfamiliar with the Ethiopian technical education system, C.o.C stands for Certificate of Competency. Managed by the Occupational Competency Assessment and Certification Agency (OCACA), the C.o.C is a national standardized assessment designed for graduates of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions. This will help you get a job.

In Ethiopia, holding a diploma or TVET certificate proves that you completed a course, but passing the C.o.C exam proves to employers that you possess the actual, practical skills needed to do the job safely and effectively. Without a C.o.C certification, getting hired as a qualified technician, mechanic, or supervisor in reputable companies is nearly impossible.

The assessment process consists of two primary components:

  1. The Practical (Performance) Assessment: A hands-on test where candidates perform real-world tasks in a workshop setting while being evaluated by an assessor.

  2. The Written (Knowledge) Assessment: A comprehensive theoretical evaluation featuring multiple-choice questions (MCQs) covering industry safety standards, mechanical principles, troubleshooting protocols, and technical systems.

While hands-on workshop time prepares students for the practical phase, finding structured, up-to-date theoretical questions to practice for the written portion has historically been a real challenge for many trainees. Here is what Addis Garage is prepared to provide for you. This blog we prepare will help you to practice for C.o.C Examinations.

What’s New: The Interactive Practice Section

To solve this problem, we are transforming our website into an active learning platform. In the coming year, we will be launching a brand-new Interactive C.o.C Preparation Section built directly into the site!

Instead of just reading static text posts, TVET trainees will now be able to test their knowledge in real time. Here is what you can expect from the upcoming practice modules:

  • Real Mock Exam Formats: Practice quizzes will feature standardized multiple-choice questions modeled directly after Ethiopian occupational standards and past C.o.C assessment topics.

  • Flexible Question Sets: Test sessions will range anywhere from 10 up to 80 questions per quiz, depending on the topic, allowing you to do quick quizzes.

  • Instant Score Counter: As you complete each question, an automated score counter will track your performance, helping you identify your weak spots so you know exactly which mechanical concepts or safety rules you need to review before exam day. This counter might or might not be available in this version.

  • Complete Subject Coverage: Modules will span across TVET levels, covering everything from engine overhaul fundamentals and basic electrical systems to advanced electronic engine management and modern hybrid/EV diagnostics.

Combining Tech Discussions with Practical Execution

This shift doesn't mean we are abandoning our roots! We will continue publishing news on emerging automotive tech, analyzing global vehicle trends, and hosting discussions on the transition from traditional mechanics to software-driven automobiles, since everything is continuously changing and industries are changing. The Addis Garage Telegram Library will also remain fully active and continuously updated with new repair manuals and guides.

However, by integrating interactive C.o.C practice quizzes, we are turning this site into a complete all-in-one resource. You can read about the future of modern mobility, download the manual you need for your workshop training, and immediately test your knowledge with interactive quizzes all in one place. We are building and testing this new feature to ensure the questions are accurate, clear, and genuinely beneficial for your career goals.

Stay tuned for our upcoming updates as we roll out the first batch of question sets in the coming year. Until then, you can take a look at 20 sample questions prepared in this blog. Make sure to share this news with fellow TVET students, instructors, and colleagues who are preparing for their upcoming C.o.C assessments!
